Hey guys, I'm very close to purchasing all the components for my first build. There are still a few things I'm puzzled on as I'm a newbie and I hope I can clear up before I buy all these parts. First biggest problem I'm having at the moment is dealing with the Power Supply (PSU I believe is the term all the pros use). I'm not exactly sure what amount of wattage I'll need for my build and I really don't wanna pay extra money for more wattage I'm not going to be needing.

From most of the research I've read on my own you need to look at the GPU and CPU for how much wattage you'll need and then use that to decide which PSU would best work for you. Is this true? Do I need to take in account like the motherboard and all the different SSD's/HDD's I'll be using? Does the RAM consume a lot of energy? Do I need to be factoring in all the other components?

I'm also confused on how much each part consumes. This GPU here only really tells me a power supply of 500W or more is needed. That doesn't seem very helpful, does that GPU consume 500W by itself, or would all I need is a 500W PSU?

But yea, if I could get some input on this it would be greatly appreciated. This is the CPU I'm looking to use in my build along with this GPU. If you need to know the SSD's I'm using or motherboard or anything else just let me know.

Thanks a ton.

It means 500w for the whole system.

I would use an XFX550 or XFX650 for this build. VERY good quality and inexpensive PSUs.
