Hello,
I am building my first gaming computer from scratch and was wondering if the components I have chosen so far are compatible. I also welcome advice for improvements.

CPU: AMD-FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8 Core 4.0Ghz Socket AM3+ (Do I need to get a better cooling system? Is the in box one ok?)

Motherboard: MSI Gaming AM3+ AMD 970 Sata 6.0Gb USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Power Supply Unit: Rosewill Hive Series HIVE-650 650W continuous @40c 80+ Bronze Certified Modular Design

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 420pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model (I'm getting three four gigabyte modules.

Video/Graphics Processor: MSI R9 270X 2Gb 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready CrossfireX Support Video Card

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 1Tb

Case: Corsair Vengeance C70 ATX Mid tower Computer Case

As far as peripherals I think I'm gonna get either a Corsair Vengeance mouse or the Razer Death Adder Chroma. For keyboards I'm thinking the Razer Black Widow Ultimate Edition. Oh, I almost forgot, please suggest any good monitors that are also cheap!

Thanks!!!!

get 2 or 4 ram modules mate... the system is dual channel. and i guess you meant 240 pin.

also the motherboard may not be totally compatible with the cpu you would be better off choosing a 990 chipset board. unless you can be sure it comes with a bios upgrade.

AOC make decent really cheap hard wearing monitors... as do lg. but cheap is relative.

choose anything but razer... there very pretty but not that functional as far as keyboards go and the build quality of there mice is somewhat patchy.
look for a keyboard with full NKROLL (full keyboard antighosting/roll over)
and for gamers an optical upto 3600dpi mouse will be hard to beat. (no acceleration issues with optical sensors)

The boxed cooler included with the FX-8350 is more than adequate in terms of cooling performance, but is very noisy under a load. (the little fan spins like 7000rpm or some ridiculous thing at full tilt). I would advise picking up something larger if you want the system to run reasonably quiet. I like the Arctic A30 as it comes with 4x8mm heat-pipes and in my testing can handle up to ~225+W thermal loads on an FX-8350 (overclocked).

On the subject of the CPU: If this is a gaming system, a haswell i5 build would be better. The FX-8350 offers incredible maximum execution throughput for the money, but the execution resources are divided into many small cores, which is not particularly well suited to real-time workloads like gaming. FX-8350 performs more like an i7-970 overall, which is fine if you have lots of workloads that scale to 6 or more threads, but not particularly useful if the workload is typically hamstrung by only 2-3 threads.

The MSI 970 gaming is absolutely compatible with the FX-8350, it's a very new motherboard. Just appeared on the market back in August. I don't know why HEXiT thinks it would need a BIOS update to support a CPU that has been around a lot longer than the board itself.

mate i cant remember every motherboards specs or when they are released (im pertty good but not a savant). im going off the fact when the 970 chipset arrived it had compatibility issues. thats what i went off... i wasnt aware it was a newer board with the required bios in place...
so thanx for the heads up...
