Hi all,

Is anyone aware of general issues with current versions of HDMI and incompatibilities with older TVs? My TV was manufactured in 2007.

Specs;

Motherboard: ASRock Z97E-ITX/ac

TV: Panasonic 42" Full HD Plasma (TH-42PZ700a)

I created a thread a week or so ago with issues regarding my new rig;

After much troubleshooting, i've isolated it to the TV itself. Initially I thought it the motherboard and a faulty HDMI out port, but it works fine on a newer plasma.

Can I do anything to get my older plasma to work, or should i just put it down to incompatibility?

Might be the cable. there are at least 3 differant kinds.

Just last week, setting up a new computer, and the monitor would not display anything as soon as i loaded the Intel digital display drivers.
On basic drivers it worked fine..

After a while, I swapped the HDMI cable on my cable TV for the one on the computer, and everything worked, even the cable TV worked with the cable that wouldn't run the computer.

Some HDMI cables don't have sound, and the newer ones are 2 way, I believe.

Nah, that aint it. The port works fine when connected to my old motherboard's HDMI and Wii U. Have also plugged the new motherboard into a couple of different HDMI ports on the TV and getting no signal. Generally when a device is powered on, the TV will display the format it has detected (i.e. 1080p / 60Hz) and then will display the picture, but not even getting to that point.

The newest device I have on the TV is an Xbox One which works fine, so thinking there must be a new revision of HDMI that's on my new mobo, which is causing the problem.

I'm sorry, I'm at a loss here, HDMI is supposed to work pretty much no matter what. You do need to make sure whatever graphics device your motherboard has is fully updated (drivers and whatnot), and perhaps the chipset too. Other than that, the only other thing I could think of is there being a problem with the cable. I have a similar motherboard to yours, and the only HDMI option I can think of in the BIOS is HDMI compatible mode, but that is for the HDMI input.

Is it though? I know the actual plug is universal, but there's got to be something very specific between the very early HDMI revisions and the latest ones.

The motherboard is running barebones. There's no OS installed and i've just been testing to see if it comes up in POST. So I don't think it's a graphic driver issue.

It's not a cable issue either. 3 cables have been tried with the same result.

Now here's the crazy thing... I just did another test. I plugged in the motherboard's HDMI out to the HDMI in on my Xbox One, ran my Xbox and selected 'TV'... and it works. So using the Xbox as a relay is fine, but plugging the mono HDMI directly into any of the HDMI in ports on the TV itself on any of the ports, with any cable, comes up with nothing.

Mental!
