I am in this special situation right now where I am able to purchase the Radeon R9 270x (Gigabyte version) and get 3 free games of my choice from their special list but most of those games are pretty crappy and torrentable. The final cost is $230. While the GeForce GTX 760 (Gigabyte version) offers no games and better performance in some cases. I am also not sure about the better performance because some games are handled better by the R9 270x. Also, the price is 20$ more, rounding off to $250. I am sort of a casual gamer so I was not planning on getting really high performance GPU but the sale made me reconsider so I am also interested which graphics card is better while it is idle, temperature, noise level etc. because I am not going to hardcore game that much. So which one should I got with ?

The performance is slighly better on 270x on more games than 760. However temperature and noise will be better on 760. I would go with gtx 760 if your a casual gamer and dont care about 3-4 extra frames. However most of the time the performance will be about the same. Plus better driver supports for nvidia cards will go long way. Most of the unoptimized pc games perform better on nvidia cards.

Well both GPU's are pretty close and trade blows, depending on the game or application. So if I was buying right now, I would probably consider the R9 270x and use the $20 on some other part with your build (assuming your making a build around this purchase).

If you can wait a bit longer, I'm sure nVidia will come out with the GTX 960, which should consume less power and probably be close to performance of the GTX 760.

I actually am just upgrading my GPU, PC is already built. That 20$ will be for myself to buy a burrito at chipotle. The numbers from the the website that the R9 270x is better for idling. Everywhere else the GTX 760 is presumably better at idling. I don't even know anymore.......

As for waiting for GTX 960, I don't need MORE performance, the 760 and 270 are already pretty high for me.
