I have $2000AUD for a PC for my 21st birthday (21, hence I'm calling it blackjack, also blackjack sounds awesome imo).

Based in Melbourne, Australia.

PC will be for gaming and light web browsing.

I need a monitor, keyboard and mouse as well as an OS.

This is what I'm thinking so far, but this is my first build and I would appreciate any help or suggestions. FYI I'm pretty attached to a GTX970, everything I've read and watched makes it out to be amazing.

Very solid build.

Possible places you can save.

Cheaper RAM, G.skill kit for example.
Cheaper PSU, 550W is more than enough and Gold certification is very overpriced.
Drop the thermal paste, the Hyper 212 comes with it pre-applied.

You can go with this PSU which is also good. 550 is enough, but 750 allows for another 970 down the road.

Your cpu cooler already comes with some thermal paste, so you won't need an extra one. Try putting some of the saved money onto a 24" monitor instead because, imo, the words are a bit small on a 21.5 inch screen.

And.. Wow, 970/980 cards are pricey in au.. o.o

Is it better to go with 2x4GB or 1x8gb RAM from g.skill?

Made some changes, met your budget, and managed to squeeze in a 24" monitor. :D

Oh wow, I love this community haha so helpful! Is there a big difference between the Cherry MX red's in the keyboard I found and blacks in the Thermaltake keyboard you mentioned? Or an MX reds version of the thermaltake maybe?

Not overly familiar with keyboards, so cannot really say there. I use a wireless logitech keyboard and a wireless trackball, myself.

For gaming, aim for MX Browns/Blues. Reds are too easily pressed, imo..

Its EXTREMELY preferential, we can not tell you what to pick, personally Browns and Blacks are my favourate for typing and gaming respectively.

Here is an article on MX keys :

You will need to figure out a preference or demo the keyboards, most have open boxes for exactly that purpose, fi you can find them in local stores.
