Hello,

You must do the upgrade only if your system is not doing its job anymore (ex. low FPS in games, high CPU usage in various scenarios, long completion task times). An FX-6300 will be an average upgrade from the x4-945 (5%-20% gains, depending on how well threaded are the applications), and that's only if your motherboard supports it (what motherboard do you have?).

The most worthy upgrade for your system would be a graphics card...

The most worthy upgrade for your system would be a graphics card (GTX760, R9-270X), but only if you use an 1080p monitor and you are an avid gamer.

If you want a more responsive system, you could go for an SSD (an 128GB Samsung EVO is a good choice).

The best solution is to change the platform and go for an i5-4690 (over twice more powerful than x4 945), a Z97 motherboard and a GTX970 (and, of course, a new PSU, Seasonic S12II-520 for example).

No need to upgrade unless you really need a new processor. The Phenom IIx4 945,955,965 are very nice processors even now. The Phenom II uses K10 Architecture which when you compare to the FX 6300 is faster Clock for Clock. Mind you the Power Draw is higher and the FX 6300 (Piledriver) is more efficient for More heavy Multi-threaded workloads. Plus to see noticeable(not marginal) improvement in framerate you would need to OC that FX 6300 to at least 4 or 4.2GHz.
I will follow this thread later. And Tom's is a good place for feedback, later

First of all thank you for your response
i have a gigabyte ga78lmtusb3. when you say that the i5 has twice the power of the x4 945 where exactly would you notice the difference

The biggest difference will be in CPU-intensive tasks, such video renderings, pro software (Adobe, AutoCAD, 3DStudio or such), some games (Battlefield 4, Crysis 3, GTA 4, etc.), or if you prefer to use several internet browsers with multiple tabs opened at the same time while listening some music and doing an antivirus scan in the background.

If you just need an upgrade to make your system more responsive, go for an SSD.

Yeah i don't recommend getting a new GPU when newer games use Piledriver more efficiently now sure it would be nice to spend 200$ on a I5 and 60$ on a board but you can spend half as much and get a 6300fx and put the rest towards a higher-end GPU.
