Hello, so i started my pc this morning and then i got a black screen with a underscore in the upper left corner and my pc started to beep like crazy very loud and very fast too fast for me to count
i asked a friend and he said maybe its your hard drive so i switched it with a old one and it stopped but does this mean my hard drive has died? or is there just an error?

Greetings Owen

btw sorry for my english

What is you motherboard? Check the manual for a list of beep codes, and reconnect the old HDD and see if it boots. Is the drive in question your main drive with Windows on it? Also, with the PC off, take out all the RAM sticks and then put them back in.

Hey there, Owen!

First, welcome to the community!
It seems you are struggling with a damaged/corrupted HDD.
I'd suggest to try to access the HDD on another computer. That way you can test the drive and see the diagnosis of the damage on it.
I can suggest Data LifeGuard Diagnostics tool, it can be used on any drive that needs to be tested for errors and bad sectors.

You can also run disk check using Command prompt by typing
chkdsk x: /r (where x - is the drive letter assigned to your HDD)

If this doesn't help or the drive doesn't pass the tests, you should consider getting a new one! :(

Hope I was able to help you!

I tried it on my other pc but it does the same thing.

Unfortunately, in this case, I'd suggest to contact the tech support of your HDD manufacturer. :(
They might be able to assist you further with the troubleshooting steps.
If your drive is still under warranty, you can even get a replacement.

Good luck!
Hope we helped!
