Hi.
I have an old boot disk (HDD) and a newer windows 8 SSD. Currently automatically set as a dual boot on start-up. I am in the process of tidying up my system and want to remove the old drive. I am ready to format so need to remove it from the boot options but when I do this in the bios it asks me to insert a correct bootable media device as if the SSD vanishes. What is happening. Is it possible the machine is still reading the boot sector off my old primary despite it not being a boot option? Since the windows 8 install works fine as long as it is selected from the dual boot.
Cheers for help

Your Boot info may well be on the HDD even with the OS on the SSD. I don't know why you want to remove the HDD. I always have just one drive connected when installing the OS. I would have just the SSD connected and do the clean install of Win 8. then disconnect the SSD and connect the HDD. with just the HDD connected do a clean install of windows 7. connect both drives and set your BIOS first boot priority to your default OS and use the BIOS when looking to boot from the other OS.

I'm moving the SSD to my new machine as THE boot/program drive, the other is only 250GB and its not coming with it. I don't want to clutter up my new build with unnecessary parts. Can i fix this?
