Hi, I have just finished building my first pc in the past month, my budget originally only allowed for 1x4gb corsair vengeance lp 1600 stick, I now want to add another 4gb stick to work in dual channel, the only thing is my module is cl8 I believe 8 8 8 24 timings, and I cannot get the same module with these timings without buying 1 16gb kit, I have been looking at this one -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131296790703?_trksid=p2060778...

it fits my budget and is the exact same as mine apart from timings its 9 9 9 24, my question is will I have any compatibility problems in dual channel? would I have to change the timings to 9 9 9 24 on my original stick or could I possible set the cl9 stick to 8 8 8 24 and up the voltage a bit? My motherboard is gigabyte 78mlt usb rev 5.0 if that's any help.
Thanks in advance

you could try and adjust the new stick down to CAS 8, but my guess would be that it wont work and you will have to set both sticks to 9-9-9-24 settings.

The best thing to do is buy a matching pair of sticks, but if you cant I would set both sticks to 9-9-9-24 because this will be the lesser of two evils and should give you the least amount of issues.

Just match the timings. The 9 9 9 24 timings should work easily, but the CAS 9 ram may not like running at CAS 8 timings. You can try both timing sets either way, and if the lower timings work without issue it would be a bonus. ;)  If it's the same ram except timings, you shouldn't have an issue as long as they are all set to the same voltage and timings.

Ok I did a bit of research and its not recommended to have to different modules but its my only solution at the moment, im hoping as they are they same brand/model and same frequency the more change of compatibility, running both at 9 9 9 24 sounds like it could work with no problems. I think I will go ahead and purchase it. The only other thing would be to sell my own stick and then purchase two matching pairs but this would be a bit of a hassle.

Give them a try, if any problems, give me a shout and we can make some minor timing/voltage adjustments
