It all started on Saturday. I was playing Diablo III with friends. Talking with them via Skype. Honestly, we had been playing for like 6-7 hours straight so it may have just been overheating, but it had never done this before.

So I restarted, and it then froze up after playing for about 5-10 minutes multiple times. I decided to give my computer a break and turn it off for awhile. Tried to play again later that night and it lasted a little over an hour before hard freezing again.

Most of the times the computer monitor turns off and I see that the computer turned off. The last time though the actual video itself froze up, the sound stuttered, so I had to turn off the computer via the power switch.

So what gives? Is my video card going? Overheating? I've never had this issue with my computer before... it's always had good air flow as far as I know (considering its multiple past years of good performance). The only thing I can think of that has changed is I tried to move my computer into another room to hook it up to my flatscreen TV, but decided against it and moved it back. I doubt something would have joggled loose.

It could be overheating, but most current computers will throttle itself(slower) to create less heat and cool itself. My guess would be that the PSU is overheating. Either way the first thing you should do is clean all the dust out, and make sure that all the fans are running properly with adequate air-flow through the case(and PSU). Then run tests and check temperature to make sure the GPU and CPU are not overheating.

So I blew out all the dust in the computer, added some Arctic Silver to my CPU (there was barely any under my heatsink fan), and ordered two case fans since I noticed the ONE (yes one) that came on my case was doing well, but he was all alone. I also turned on the computer with the side of the case off and all three fans ran fine (the CPU heatsink, the graphics card, and my case fan).

Therefore, I don't know what gives. I did however notice that my computer restarted last night and threw up an error. I didn't see what it was though, so I'm thinking maybe when I reseated the heatsink this caused an issue? This is the first error I've seen throughout the whole business.

Last piece: I played Diablo III last night and had CoreTemp running. The computer never got above 60 Celsius, and it's sitting at about 30-35 right now with me typing and reading the news.
