Hello
I'm building my first PC, to be used for gaming (Battlefield 3/4) as well as general usage while i'm at Uni. I will be buying my components in a few weeks time, and would like feedback on the parts I have chosen.

Monitor is not on the list, but its a Benq VZ2350HM 23" IPS Monitor

Price: $1855 (Australia)

Thankyou :^)

Not bad....definitely get 2 sticks of 4GB RAM instead of 1 8GB. Maybe add an SSD in there too.

If you don't do editing/rendering/etc. you can save a bunch of money by going with an i5-4690K. Performance in games is almost identical.

Also go with 2x4GB RAM so you can take advantage of Dual Channel.

Something like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($269.00 @ Centre Com)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U14S 55.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($85.00 @ CPL Online)
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($178.00 @ CPL Online)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($99.00 @ CPL Online)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($99.00 @ CPL Online)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card ($519.00 @ CPL Online)
Case: Thermaltake Chaser A41 ATX Mid Tower Case ($118.00 @ CPL Online)
Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($98.00 @ CPL Online)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NSB0 DVD/CD Writer ($19.00 @ CPL Online)
Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN881ND 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($17.99 @ Mwave Australia)
Keyboard: Razer DeathStalker Wired Gaming Keyboard ($74.00 @ CPL Online)
Mouse: Razer DeathAdder 2013 Wired Optical Mouse ($44.00 @ CPL Online)
Total: $1619.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

EDIT: The price is in Australian dollars by the way, that's why it seems high compared to your link.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I'll definitely change to the RAM suggestion.
In regards to a SSD, I'm still deciding on whether I need one. Fast loading games and Windows would be nice.

And although the i5-4690k is sufficient for gaming, I intend this PC to last 4 years while I'm at Uni, so would the i5-4690k last that well?

Yeah the I5 would definitely last. SSDs are a relatively cheap upgrade option and effective.

People still game on i5-2500 without much issue, so an i5-4690K should last long enough. You can always overclock it to squeeze some more life out of it too, especially with that Noctua.

There are no guarantees of course, it's always possible (but very unlikely) that new games start using 8 threads soon, in which case the i7 would fare much better. All we really know for sure is how it performs right now. Again, I expect the i5-4690K to last a good long time.

As for the SSD, Crucial's MX100 series is great value. You also can't go wrong with the Samsung 840 Evo series. Low capacity 840 Evo's have faster write speeds than low capacity MX100's but they're also a little bit more expensive. At 512GB the speeds are very similar.
