Hello guys!

I want to add a third monitor to my gaming system. I am currently using a display port connector for my main gaming monitor (120HZ) and a DVI out for the secondary monitor (60HZ). My question is: If I add a thrid monitor will that effect my videocard's performance to a noticeable level? I am wondering if a third monitor is going to tax it badly?

Or should I buy a second ElCheapo video card for the third monitor and make the power supply work harder?

Main video card is a MSI R9 290.

Thanks,

Alan

The R9 290 will struggle quite a bit with 3 monitors and you will have to turn down the settings quite a bit.

If I were you I would get a second video card and connect it to the worst monitor, so the R9 290 can have the same performance on two monitors.

You could also just use the R9 290 but it would struggle a lot so I woudn't recommend it.

Hope I helped ;)

Hmmm. Well then I might as well get a cheaper card and run two monitors off of it and use the R9 290 for the gaming monitor. I really don't care much about the other 2 they are for browsers, etc.

I disagree.
I once experimented with a cheap second card for a second 2560 x 1600 monitor.
Gaming on the main monitor was unaffected.

My suggestion is to go ahead and add your third monitor and do some testing.
You can always add that other card later.
