Long story short, I have to buy an all new PC. I am not on a recurring pay plan, so I do not have as much money all the time. Is it ok for me to buy, lets say a motherboard, today, and have it in 4 days, and not even open the box until 4 months from now when I buy and collect everything for my build? Or is that a bad thing to do. Please let me know.

This is a bad idea because parts can arrive DOA to your door, and you only have so much time to submit an RMA request before your warranty expires. Some RMA warranties are only good for 30 days after receipt of the part in question.

You'd be a lot better off putting the money away and letting it sit for months at a time than the parts.

It's possible, but not ideal. If you purchase the motherboard now, but do not open it until four months from how, you won't know until then whether or not the item is defective. If it is, you cannot go through the relatively simple return policy of the company your purchased it from. You now have to go through the warranty process which could take weeks longer.
