My specs at the moment
CPU: AMD Bulldozer FX-6100 Six Core 3.30GHz Processor FD6100WMGUSBX Socket AM3+

GPU :AMD R7 240 2GB Graphics Card

PSU :500W Power Supply

i want to replace the r7 with a r9 280x will the powers supply take it?

More about : 280x

we need make and model, not all 500w psu are equally built! your bulldozer wont be that good pair! there will be bottleneck!

prebuilt systems rarely come with quality psu.! however you can open your side panel and check the psu sticker for make and specs. you need a 12v rail of 30A and 1x6+2pin pcie & 1x6pin pcie power cables to run such gpu.!

thats good news! its not a great one but enough to run a R9 280x. it has a 12v rail of 38A and 2x6+2pin pcie power cables.!however i wouldnt overclock cpu or gpu with it for any reason! since its a semi modular psu you should have the pcie power cable needed laying in some box!
