It is my first time building and I am gathering parts, I thought myself pretty confident until my issue arises.
I am going to be using a corsair cx600 builder as my PSU and an Asus m5a99fx pro r2.0 as my MoBo. In my PSU manual it says my main power connector is 24pin with a detachable 4 pin. 'This 4 pin connector is not a p4 or atx 12V connector, do not force it into p4 or atx +12v socket'. So I checked my motherboards power connector port online and it says '1x24pin ATX • 1x8 pin ATX 12v' So it has stated that I can use it for my 24pin power connector, but it also has on there the 12v, so does this mean I can or can't use it?

You use it on the 24 pin connect. What you have is a 20/24 pin combo connector and you would detach the 4 pin to use it on a 20pin motherbd.

The cpu power or atx12v is also probably a combo connector with two 4 pin connections. dep[ending on it your cpu power header is 4 or 8 pins.

Do not mix the two up. They are electrically opposite of each other and plugging either one into the wrong place will short out the power supply and possible produce a nice BANG and cloud of smoke from it. LoL

So the motherboard main power connector on my PSU will work?
EDIT: Oh ok, I just read that through again, basically don't detach the 4 pin from the 20 pin and use it as cpu power. (even though my cpu power connector is 8pin and not detachable)
