If you're able to stretch that about $30 I'd say go for the new GTX 970 which is here. If you can't, try this. They are both great upgrades to your current card.

REMEMBER TO CHECK IF YOUR PSU CAN SUPPORT IT USING A CALCULATOR LIKE THIS .

I prefer amd in most cases but he's right if you can stretch your budget a few extra dollars the gtx 970 is the perfect buy. If you really can't afford to go over 300 the r9 280x would be around 299$.

I agree with the above comment. If you're going to spend $300 you might as well spend another $30-$50 and get a GTX 970. I just bought an MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G and it is hands down the best graphics card I ever owned. For the past year to two years I had an AMD 7950 and an Nvidia GTX 750 Ti. Both were great cards but the GTX 970 is perfect!!!

Trust me, you won't regret it. Also as stated above, you will need at least a 500W power supply with at least a 42a rail.

the asus gtx 780 is 329.99 - .05% off = 313.50 - 20 MIR = 293.50 thats about the best card you can get for $300

and for now, there are still some problems with the gtx 970 cards. so we should wait till they have a new fresh batch of cards to sell.
most cards are okay but msi and gigabyte have some coal whining, evga has a faulty cooling system and asus doesnt have problems for as far as I know, but is the lowest in performance.
so either wait a month or 2 and you'll have saved enough money together to buy a gtx 970 or buy a gtx 780 like sanzhbz sugested here.
