Hi, I have a new computer - stock fans in both front and back of case, as well as a stock CPU fan. My processor, the A8-6600K is reaching high temps - 70 degrees according to some apps and 60 degrees according to the BIOS. Any advice?

Hi mate, AMD still hasn't worked out a good algorithm for working out APU Temperatures... So you should discard the 'package' or 'core' temperature as this is the completely innacurate one.. The best way to find out you true CPU temp is to look at the Socket temperature or it may be listed 'CPU' Temperature.. and take about 8'c off during full load..

Regardless if AMD has poor per core temp sensor that just guestimates based on a algorithm. That's the temp AMD prefer you follow when overclocking and thats the temp AMD bases the MAX of each CPU to be. Secondly, is that temp under load as in gaming or just browsing the web and idle. If its the former its not too too bad and could be pinned on dust. If its the latter then I'd reapply the thermal paste but make sure you clean the heatsink and cpu thoroughly with some rubbing alcohol. AMDs temp sensor is actually really accurate under load but becomes a mess when running cooler then 30c. The socket temp isn't a good sensor to use because according to AMD is too influenced by the outside world. Things like the vrms components transferring heat via the board and other components all contribute to make the socket temp almost useless. Except for the fact that AMD boards throttle when the socket temp passes 70ish and thats when it becomes an issue. If its the socket temp giving you issues, just set up a fan blowing against the back of the motherboard. A lot of people are forced to do it and so was I for a time. that should give you an indication of how accurate the socket temp really is.

As I just said, AMD still haven't got an algorithm that is slightly accurate for APU's yet. They have said this themselves. So the algorithm based temperate, that is the packagage, should be ignored. The 37'c one sounds about right but see which one increased at load.
