Hi I have just bought a Kingston hyperx 8gb 1866mhz set and I already have a corsair vengeance 4gb 1600mhz stick should I use the hyperx set on its own or with the corsair stick all running at 1600mhz? Thanks

That depends on your channel configuration. What is your mobo? And what are your ram sitcks? (I'm guessing 1x4gb for the corsair, and 2x4gb for the kingston)
Now what I recommend is, just throw all the sticks in there, at 1600, and see if your pc is finding all the ram, and running stable. If it is, great, just keep it in there! If not, just take the corsair out, and keep the kingston at 1866.
The issue would not be the 1600 vs 1866 performance difference, as you probably wouldn't notice any at all. The issue you could encounter, is incompatibility between your sticks' channels. But as I said above, just test it, and don't worry about the frequency you would be loosing.

Okay thanks I put them all in together and did a pass mark memory test with all the sticks being recognised then I took out the corsair stick and left both Kingston sticks in and re ran the pass mark and my read and writes where around 1000 mbps faster than with all 3

Well your board is dual channel, so there should be no stability issues when using all your memory sticks.
Now, it is up to you, if you would rather have the extra bandwith, or the extra memory size.

How did you have the sticks arranged. With the three stick combo try the kingstons in 1-3 and the odd ball in slot 2 (from CPU, set to 1600 and raise DRAM voltage + 0.05 and the MC (memory controller) voltage up to 1.10 (believe it's DDRVTT, CPUVTT or just VTT on your mobo), that might raise the performance a bit closer to true 1866

Agreed. You can have all the sticks in, and still get good performance, by slightly OCing the ram, like Tradesman1 said!

I have the Kingston in slot 1 and 2 for dual channel and then the corsair is in the slot marked 3 which is in between the Kingston ram. I checked cpuz with all of them in and it said the Kingston was running at a higher frequency than the corsair while they where all in together. And okay I'll try that but never OC'D ram before haha

Moved the Kingston to slots 1 and 3 so they are in channel B together and the corsair is in slot 2. I have found the dram voltage but can't find the MC voltage in my bios :L
