I would recommend the GTX 760 for $220 , and the GTX 970 at $330 for upper level graphics cards.

I would personally go with XFX over EVGA as XFX is one of the top three companies in my opinion.

The GTX 970 & 980 released in September are dominating the high performance graphics card market. The GTX 750 Ti is doing very well in the $150 range. Both are very efficient. The only reason, I would recommend AMD right now is that you may be able to pick up a bargain.

(The GTX 970 at $329 is rated between a GTX 780 and the GTX 780 Ti. So the other reason to buy AMD is because the cards are hard to find in stock.)
