Can't Boot From DVD

HI guys, I am stuck...

I don't know how many times I installed windows on a new hard drive... but this time I can't get it to boot from cd..

I had a hard drive crash so I picked up a SSD, the bios reads the the SSD and DVD rom drive, and I changed the boot order so the DVD rom boots first. All I am getting is a message that says "reboot and select proper boot device." I made sure my disc boots in another machine and it works fine.

The computer I am working on is a Gateway DX-4870.

Any help would be awesome, trying to get my client up and going again..
Thanks in advance!

Andrew

I don't see a option in bios to set ahci.. don't know if I am missing it, seen it in other bios'...

The disc works perfect in other machines. Could it be a bad mobo?

I tried all the hot keys to load the boot menu, but I can not get that screen. So I went into bios and set the boot priority, booting from cd rom first... As soon as the bios loads I get the message"reboot and select proper boot device."

It doesn't sound like a bad mono. If you can't see ahci that concerns me as to how old this board is, but it should still work. Do you know if it supports USB booting? If so I would copy the windows ISO to a USB drive and use that to install.

Installing from a USB drive would rule out some problems.

If that doesn't work try this workaround,

Remove the ssd and install a normal HDD, format the HDD to the size of the ssd (not going to have to be 100% accurate but go smaller rather than larger) install to the HDD and clone the install to the ssd once it's done (you will need a second machine to clone on and either two spare data cables or a USB enclosure

If they both fail I would see if a modern Linux CD can install just to rule out drivers. This can probably be fixed and I think the USB or cloning method will sort it out. Best wishes

So I tried windows 7 64 bit and same thing... Not sure what is going on. I feel the cd rom drive spinning, like it is trying to boot from it cd, but nothing happens and that message appears, ""reboot and select proper boot device."

In the bios, under what tab should be the settings for uefi? I am not seeing anything of the sort... The computer had windows 8 on it and since the hard drive crashed and had to get a new one I decided to get a ssd and put windows 7 on it.

But I am not seeing the settings for uefi...?
