I just got a router from a friend, its a Actiontec q2000 for centurylink. Im trying to set it up but when i got to 192.168.0.1 for the controll panel it gives a pink page that says "404 not found". I called/chatted with centurylink for help but them being a big company i do not get jack help from them. I am wondering if anyone knows how to fix, only thing i tried is to push the reset button on the router and it still shows the same page.

That may not be the IP of the router, especially if your friend played with the settings.

Find a manual for it that lists the default address, and the reset may be a reboot more than a full reset to factory which won't help you much.

Or just ask your friend what he used for the IP.

well, my friend was not tech savy so he did no more than log into it so he could access the internet. even Centurylink says that is the default ip according to: http://internethelp.centurylink.com/internethelp/modem-...
I also had access to the page but i forgot the ppp details so i had to plug other modem back to contact centurylink and after that it gave the 404 and 400 errors.

Do you have both routers hooked up to the network? If they both have the same IP you will have conflicts. Do one at a time, do not connect the new router to the network, only to power, and plug in the computer to that one, reboot, then try to get to the setup page on it.

I think that might be it, im cant remember if i had both but it is likely. I will post if this is the problem.

EDIT: That did not change anything :pfff:
