I am building my first computer with the following specs:

NZXT H440 case
WD Black series 4TB 7200RPM 64MB Cache
G. SKILL Ribjaws X Series 16GB(2x8GB) 240pin DDR3 1866
ASUS Maximus VII Hero LGA 1150 Intel z97 motherboard
Intel Core i7-4790K Haswell Quad-Core LGA 1150
x2 Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB SATA III SSD
Corsair Hydro Series H105 Liquid CPU cooler
x6 Corsair Air series SP120 fans
x2 MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G GeForce

Need to know what PSU wattage would be compatible and if possible, suggested brands.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Hey there katkat64,

Your build (as you listed it) would consume around 540W - 550W (without any overclocking). Seeing that you've picker an i7k CPU and a CPU Cooler, I'm thinking that you will be eventually OCing that build so I could go up to over 600W. Furthermore, you have space to add more things in there.
I would recommend a PSU that provides at last 650W at +12V. A 700W 80+ gold or platinum PSU would be sufficient enough for your needs.
IMHO, you could always spend more money on a PSU as it provides more stable and secure wattage to your build, gives you more space for upgrades and could last you through several more builds.

Hope this helps,

It's not always the wattage we look at, but the +12V rail.

Even so you want a quality brand, with enough headroom to clear peak performance of gpu/cpu.

If you want headroom for possible SLI options later, then go with this

EVGA 750W 80+ GOLD

If just enough for singular 970, you're not going to need very much actually.

EVGA 650W 80+ Bronze

^ Great value, with good coverage room. As your peak wattage will require just shy or 500 watts
