I am not sure if this question is in the correct forum, but I wasn't sure where to post it.

Anyways, here is my problem.

Sometimes when I shutdown my desktop (running Windows 8.1) the computer doesn't turn off. The monitors turn off, keyboard and mouse lights go out, but fans keep going (fan lights still on too), and other inside lights remain on (light for mobo, graphics card, sound card).

Sometimes when this happnes one of two things occures: 1.) The computer finally turns off completely after 5-10 minutes of staying like this or 2.) It stays on much longer (30 minutes is longest I have waited) and I eventually just have to hold down the powerbutton on the case to shut it down. When either of these occure the computer always turns back on without issues.

This does not happen ofte, maybe once a week. But it is odd. It has happened with my laptop before as well (also running windows 8.1). For the record, this has happened with the computer when it ran Windows 7 as well.

It doesn't seem to be causing any issues, and I have scanned for viruses/malware. If someone just tells me that this "Just happens sometimes for X reason" then I'll accept that. It's just strange and I'm just curiouse.

Thanks.

Are you set for automatic updates from microsoft? Usually every tueday night or wednsday these happen. Do you turn your monitor off when you shut down? If so you may not see that it is updating. Check it out. This may be why. Maybe not.
