I have an ASUS H81T motherboard, here's the problem. The board supports my G3258 Pentium but not until after it has had the BIOS updated (stupid). I don't have a spare non-refresh haswell lying around and was wondering if anyone had ANY pointers as to fixing this. PC will turn on, but does not post at all due to bios. I have tried putting the BIOS chip in my Formula VII and attempted to use the ROG Flashback to just update the chip but my board was not having any of that sadly.

Solution
It's not possible. That board does not have the ASUS flashback capability, it uses a flash utility that requires a compatible CPU be installed at the time of update. Boards with flashback can update with an unsupported cpu or no cpu at all, but that board cannot. You will need to send the board to ASUS to have the BIOS updated and hopefully you have not damaged the chip trying to update in an incompatible board. Probably not, but you never know with these things. I wouldn't mention it to ASUS and just RMA the board for an update or return it and get a board that already has support.

Or find somebody with a compatible CPU, update the BIOS and give them their chip back.

Yeah, I figured as much. Oh well. Luckily, I received my BIOS Programming tool today that will allow me to flash it with the correct version. Thank god for modern technology!

Certainly, you can find it at Amazon, be warned though, it is not easy to use. I had to slighty rewrite the configuration file of the program to translate itself from Chinese to English, it's simple, but the actual program itself is a bit eh, strange. Works for all intents and purposes though!

Finding the software took awhile, since it wasn't included. Be warned, Google Chrome WILL detect the Dropbox file as malicious! However, I have scanned the file contents with both ESET NOD 32 and Kaspersky and both virus scans have turned up a 100% clean pass. You're welcome to test it yourself as well. You'll have to temporarily disable Chrome's privacy and phishing detection to finish the download.

If anyone should need help with the setup of the program they can message me directly and I'll do what I can to assist you :)

Indeed, with some common notepad and PC knowledge it's not hard at all, but not everyone has time to research into that. Either way, it seems to work excellently! I'm testing the chip as we speak, will confirm whether it works or not.

Well, unfortunately in my case it did not work for the chip. However, the software DOES work, but my board just isn't having any of it. So, it is still a viable means of repair if you encounter something like this, but not all time. Oh well, I'll just have ASUS throw me a chip from their stock.

Sorry to hear that man. What a drag. Yeah, I guess it's time to test out the customer service window. Maybe they'll hook you up. Last time I had an issue with a BIOS on an ASUS board that was replaceable, they sent me it for free. Not that they always do that, but you can hope. Especially if it's a new board and just a compatibility issue that can't be resolved with the normal procedures. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you.

Thanks man, I hope so too. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll throw me a bone! After all, I do have two of their 290X's, one 27" monitor, and the Formula VII motherboard. Might give them a little incentive to keep the customer happy ;)

Actually, if the board is new, I'd play the I was told this board would be compatible out of the box and would have a compatible BIOS role. They are more likely to be cooperative in regard to support for a new product than one beyond the warranty period.

Oh, the board is pretty new. That I can say for sure. I'll try that one, see how it goes. I'll be on the phone with them in the morning, hopefully they can situate this madness.
