so originally i built two new X99 machines back on august 30th, the day X99 and Haswell-E was released. i was able to buy 2 sets of G.Skill 4x4GB 3000 MHz RAM for $300 from ncixus. newegg was around the same price. a week later the price went to $390 and only newegg had them for a few hours. i bought another set for a new build.

today i go to newegg and the price is now $500!!! what gives? Corsair was ripping people off with their overpriced garbage and G.Skill decided to join in on the fun i guess. and yes, corsair memory IS garbage.

i'll step down to 2800 MHz RAM for these next 2 builds but does anyone have an idea what is causing these insane price hikes? more price fixing? yield problems? any clue?

It's simple supply and demand. Not condoning it, but it's just how capitalism works.

A vendor is free to price as they would like.. I've seen some outrageous prices on eBay and Amazon.. even for DDR3

Not a fan of Corsair either (and you are paying a premium for the name), but DDR4 is in short supply and the re/e-tailers can price them to the max(and are doing so), as demand slackens, prices will drop, but DDR4 is brand new and they know until the release of the next gen CPUs the 2011-V3 is it.....I'm planning to hold off until DDR4 gets a little more performance oriented, the CPU performance increase in 2011-V3 is so-so unless heading up to the 8 core. 2011 is still viable and performance wise right there ;)
