Is it possible to OC G.Skill Sniper Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR to 1866 on my Gigabyte 970A-DS3?
Ram- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Mobo- http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=...
Cpu- AMD FX 8150

One of my friends said to use Cpu-z to get the timings and that XMP is used for Intel, while Jedec is for AMD. I tried the XMP settings, aswell as the profile 1&2 in the bios and wouldn't post. I was able to get JEDEC#6 to work so it's the ram is current at 1600. Can anyone help?

In Class atm, my ram was F3-14900CL9D-16GBSR, 16GB. Not sure if that would change anything. I'll be back in 1 hour to test out what g skill said to do.

Need to boost the CPU/NB Voltage +0.1V to stabilize DDR3-1866.

Set the DRAM frequency, timings, and voltage, boost the CPU/NB Voltage, then see how that works. Keep us posted!

Ok so I've tried 9-10-9-28 with both 1T and 2T at 1.51v

Current settings for the voltage is 1.51v
CPU Voltage Control 1.325v
CPU NB VID Control 1.875v

I've tried upping both the CPU Volt and CPU NB VID control by +.1v and neither posted. CPU NB VID Control at 1.975v looks like the max, any higher, the numbers are red.

With the 8150 (and are you OCed at all?) try spec timings and freq at 1866, set DRAM voltage to 1.56 and the CPU/NB to 1.2 initially, the end voltage will depend on how strong the MC (memory controller) of your individual 8150 is

No my 8150 isn't OC'd, do i need to OC it to OC my RAM?
I'll try ur suggestions in about 30 mins, finishing up a lab for my Visual Basic class.

Update #1
No dice, Also what do u mean by Spec timings? Is 9-10-9-28 1T not right for 1866?
Also my CPUNB doesn't have exact 1.2v, has 1.2125(what i tired), 1.2375, 1.2625, and 1.2875. Any higher and the numbers are red.

If no joy that way can try 1600 at 9-9-9-24, 1.5 and 1.15(CPU/NB), not all 8150s can run 1866

I can currently run them at 1600 with 10-10-10-27, 1.5v, and CPU/NB at default lvls which i think is 1.875. Do you recommend your timing and voltages? What would the difference be?

Might try a slight OC of the CPU, one of the things they did with the 8350 was OC it higher than the 8150 so they could have a better chance of living up to their claim that the FX CPUs could even run 1866. CPU/NB should be at less than 1.1 at stock, with yours we may have to go up to 1.3 for 1866, but I prefer to go in small increments

Not sure how you're getting such high voltage for CPU NB VID Control..

It should be around 1.30V for DDR3-1866

Can you post some pictures of BIOS?

Sry, It's 1.1875v. I've been mis-typing it. I've also been talking to a gskill customer support thru email, and so far they've told me to DRAM Voltage to at 1.55v and the CPU NB VID control to be be around 1.25V-1.30V

I've started at 1.2625 and tried every setting going up to 1.4875 (misread on my phone, thought they said up to 1.5v so i went as high as 1.4875)

You may just have a weak 8150, try 1600 9-9-9-27 1.55 and CPU/NB at 1.25

Ok, so with the help with G Skill Customer Support, i'm at the moment, able to run 8GB 2x4GB Sticks at 1866 9-10-9-28 1T 1.55v CPU NB VID Control at 1.2875v. Currently using MemTest86+. So far been about 30 mins, no error. Gonna test the other 2 sticks when i have time, and also wait to see if Customer Support has any other way to run all 16GB at 1866

As mentioned earlier w/ 4 sticks may need to take CPU/NB to 1.3 or better, and DRAM may need to go 1.55 (and up to 1.6)

Tried that. For DRAM i went as far as 1.66, and CPU/NB up to 1.4. Still wouldn't post
