dude dw about compatibility you can use any graphic card that spends up to 150 W ( to be on the safe side)
here is the hierarhy for around 150+$
ati / nvidia
260X >130$ / 750ti 140-150$ ( similar performance)
R9 270>150 $ /
R9270X>180-190$/ 760 220$
R9280 > 220$

As you can see ati cards with similar performance are 20-30$ cheaper then nvidias counterparts
decide up on your budget

I'll suggest you to go for Ati/AMD/Sapphire Radeon r7 265 or r9 270 because you can buy any one of this within $160. Both the cards are 256-Bit GDDR5 which is a plus point for better performance without lagging and both the cards can be easily ran by a 500 watt PSU. Nvidea cards with these features will cost minimum 200-220 USD. Now it's up to you which one will you prefer based on your budget, requirements etc. If it was me then I would definitely go for Radeon.

Here are some links U can check:

Nvidia typically has more features and technology packed into their GPUs, and the 900 series is really looking good. I would wait until a lower end 900 series card ( the 960 will possibly be quite cheap). AMD is cheaper, but doesn't have as many technologies. The only one I can think of is Tressfx and Mantle, which I haven't heard anything about recently.
