Hello everybody!

I recently built my first gaming PC and have started to (attempt to) over clocking everything. I am quite new to the world of overclocking and I am trying to learn the ways.

RAM: GSkill RipJaws 8GB (4GBx2) DDR3-2133 F3-2133C9D-8GXL
MOBO: ASUS Maximus VII Gene mATX
CPU: i7-4790k

I have attempted to use the XMP profile through ASUS's bios to no avail, having it fail every time. I have also attempted at tweaking the RAM clock speed manually through the BIOS as well. Setting my CPU VCore to 1.2 I am only able to overclock the RAM to 1800MHz and anything beyond I am not able to achieve. I am just wondering how to tweak this so I am achieve 2133MHz. Also, I am curious to why the default XMP profiles are not working for me.

Once again, I am new to the ways of overclocking and I do apologize for probably sounding like a complete idiot.

Any help and insight will be greatly appreciated!

Solution
I'm not an expert in overclocking RAM, more in cpu's and gpu's, but if the XMP profiles do not work. Alot of people reccomend not to use them and do it manually. You might also have to change the Dram voltage and the VCCIO voltage.

The Dram not above 1.55v, about 1.5 to 1.65v will do.
The Vccio to about 1.125 to 1.2v.
Do not trust me completely on these though. It depends.

I found someone with the same problem as you on another thread.

What they did seemed to fix it for them.
Sorry not much help, hopefully someone else can help you and me.

found this too on toms forums...

Seems to support some of my idea's.
