I have Corsair Vengace 2x8GB and Kingston Hyper X 2x4GB both on 1600Mhz. My motherboard has 4 slots, and 2 x 2 dual channels, colored in different colors (black-gray-black-gray). I put Kingston memory in 1 and 3, and Corsair in 2 and 4. Computer does not start, it just beeps once and restarts itself repeating the same. I have Haswell i7 processor. What could be wrong? Both memories work separately.

There's a reason manufacturers sell kits. DDR3 is not very tolerant of variation, and kits ensure that the two DIMMs are close enough to run together. I am not very versed on teasing things into working together, but there are some other users much more familiar with getting things to run.

Do the two kits have the same rated voltage and timings?

It is clear that both kits are not compatible with each other. It would be better if you provide their model number or following info:

CL Value or CAS Latency

You are mixing 2x8GB Corsair RAM with 2x4GB Kingston RAM. Any good reason? The very reason they are not working together with each other is their timings. corsair RAM has timings of 10-10-10-27 with 1.5v whereas Kingston RAM has timings of 9-9-9-27 with 1.65V.

So, do you think if these could work together if their timings and voltages match? I'm just trying to exploit extra Kingston RAMs if possible. If not, I'll stick with 16gigs. Thanks!

First, don't mind please but Corsair RAM with 16gigs @ 1600MHz with CAS of 10 is not a wise choice. At 1600MHz you should target CAS of 7-9. You can try to increase DRAM voltage on Corsair RAM to match 1.65V on Kingston to give it a try but not guaranteed to work.

Will give it a shot, thanks!

I've tested these memories with different voltages 1.5 - 1.65 and with custom CAS values. They both suprisingly can handle different values. I've tried mixing them in different ranges, but they never worked together.

Bottomline: Never mix these two types of memories. It may work but I would not recommend it.

Thanks for the help!

If you want to try, try the sticks manually set to 1600, 10-10-10-28, 1.6 and then look for the MC (memory controller) voltage believe its DDRVTT, or CPUVTT on your mobo and try raising it + 0.06
