Ok so there is a router downstairs serving wifi internet with adsl2 connection. I am upstairs and there is another phone socket right next to my computer. I just want to be able to plug my computer directly into the wall and not use the downstairs wifi. So second router wont be used for wifi just to connect computer to wall. Is it possible to have both?

I do not see why i cant just plug my computer into the wall and get net. Silly I cannot really.
I know there are other threads on this but Most are old and I thought there might be some new developments here.

Because phone wires in a standard installation are all hooked together. If you put a second dsl device in it will interfere with the first. Only 1 modem is allowed on a phone line.

Now if you are lucky and the wires happen to be good enough to run data (many houses newer than 20yrs) you might be able to rewire the jacks to use for data.

So lets assume the wire when you pull the plates off looks like ethernet cable. Your next challenge will be finding a way to get a path between the 2 rooms that has no other jacks attached to it. If they run back to a central location it will likely be pretty easy if they are dasiy chained from jack to jack it likely will not work.

Pretty much once you get the wire figured out you can put...

Pretty much once you get the wire figured out you can put standard rj45 jacks you get at the local home improvement store on each end. You plug it into your lan port of your router and you are good to go. Pretty much you built a long patch cable that runs though the walls.

Even if the wire was cat3 you would still get 10m and likely get 100m. Really all you can do it try it since it cost way to much money to test cable.

If you find the older yellow/black/red/green telephone wire it likely will not work and the wire is too thick to put in the connectors on the back of the rj45 jacks.
