Hey guys,

I'm thinking of getting three 980s for a 1080p for really future-proof, or should I get two 980s for a 4K setup. I'm planning to buy January 2015. Need help.
CPU: i7 4790k
Ram: 8gb corsair
Mobo: Gigabyte G1.SNIPER 5 EATX LGA1150 Motherboard

i rather go dual 980 and buy a higher ress monitor :D . Even dual 980 for 1080p is overkill imho

first of, future-proof is stupid it doesnt exist.
Now if you have that kind of cash 2-way and 4k is much more sensible option or even better insted of 4k you can do 5760x1080p surround at least thats what i would do.

also consider that by january new stuff shoud be out like the bigger maxwell gpu (gm200 or something), also broadwell.
and also for that budget id go 16gb ram

Even one 980 is probably overkill for a 1080 display. Check reviews, this is mentioned again and again
by numerous site reviewers, including here on toms.

However, if you're the type of person who likes to have really high minimum frame rates with
all details maxed out (that's kinda what I do), then I can understand the 2x 980 idea, though
don't use three as the stuttering with more than 2 cards is too annoying.

I went from using 3x 680s to 3 titan blacks and found almost no difference in FPS when going from 1080p to 4k trust me the 2x 980s will be fine for 4k.
