Return my H100i?

I posted yesterday about adding a few new parts to my computer. I tried to replace the PSU which turned out to be DOA. USing my 550 watt proved this. The next problem I came across was my h100i cooler system.

It slowly blinks white and red, and I have reseated it a dozen times. It is an AMD3+ brace, so I can't use the backplate trick for making it more tight. With it running, the max rpm the pump will move is 260, and my CPU gets up to 87 celsius before I shut it down. I tried Corsair Link, I tried changing the BIOS, and I even tried praying to Joe Pesci. No luck.

Should I go ahead and assume the system is faulty and return it? I was skeptical at first, as the internet says the h100i has pre-applied thermal paste, which mine did not. I applied some, I made it very tight, and checked every connection. No luck.

You should try to re-install the H100i with new thermal paste.

In that case it is time to return the H100i.

Washers wont help if your pump isnt working. Maby stupid question, but did you plug in sata connection and pump 3pin in to cpu_fan?

Hi

If you indeed, installed it perfectly flat on that CPU's IHS, added good amount of TIM and connected the correct wires where they need to be and still get bad temperatures. There's definitely problems with your H100i Kit.

Sounds like you got a bad unit, but I have one question: Did you put TOO MUCH thermal paste on the cooler. Over application can result in the paste acting as an insulator instead of a heat conductor.
Since you have done this 5-6 times, and prayed to Joe, and it still isn't working; contact Corsair Tech support (worth the phone call to actually talk to them, and they will call you back) and get an RMA going.

The corsair H100i comes with a very thin layer of high-end thermal paste on it. If your's didn't, you may have bought a used one? If it did, and you installed additional thermal paste, too much thermal paste can also cause problems.

Did you use alchohol to remove the thermal paste each of the 5 times your re-applied?

Yes, I did. I ended up returning it. The rpms just wouldnt scale. Next time I will buy a kit and do it myself.
