Hello,

I am going to re-seat my heatsink and fan (Enermax T-40 Black Twister)
This is because I am experiencing high temperatures when playing games like Arma 3, although my idle temperature is 30-40 degrees.

My processor is Intel i7 4970k @ 4.0 ghz.

I am going to buy this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Arctic-Silver-Paste-Articlean-Cleaner/dp/B003VRBPAI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1412087756&sr=8-2&keywords=artic+silver+5

^ is that the right stuff which I need, am I re-seating because of high temperatures and when i installed the heatsink the bolts and screws were tight, but if i pushed the heatsink it could turn around, the more you pusher the more it will turn @ 360 degrees or whenever

I also am using on board graphics and I spread the thermal paste when I first installed it with a plastic food bag, do i really need to do this?

can someone please answer the questions above and give me a hand please.

Solution
Hello... Yes, Artic silver has a good reputation.
And it seem to me you have a mounting plate or spring problem with your current setup. There are plenty of video on how to install about every product out there... and from the Manf'rs websites too.
The spring should have enuff tension to not let your cooler move that easy on your CPU. Do you have TOO much paste on your CPU/Cooler? You want metal to metal contact between your Cooler and CPU, thermal paste should makeup/fill in, when metal cannot touch.

That thermal compound should be fine. BUT, if you can "wiggle" the heatsink, you probably don't have it installed correctly. Re-read the installation manual. It looks pretty straight forward, but there should be significant resistance to movement.

Could you have the cross-bar in upside down? It looks like there are shoulders on the top side and none on the bottom.

Hm okay then can it be solved?

and also as my current temperatures without playing games is 30-40 is it okay to continue like this even though it gets 80-90 on games and isnt installed firmly

as i have to wait until next week to actually take it apart and try installing it correctly? it wont damage my pc or anything?

If you are talking about the intel crossbars well I have the pointy tall bits up, and then the bar which slides under the cooler though that, but when i screwed the circular screw to fasten the two long bars, one was still moving and i didint know why

I edited my first post, but after looking at the installation manual, I would double check that you don't have the crossbar the goes through the heat sink on upside down. It looks like there are shoulders on the one side.

Oh and okay.

I only have time to try and sort this out next week, so while I'm not playing games my temps are 30-40 degrees.
is it safe to carry on until i can sort on heatsink

but i have pictures of when the cpu cooler was outside my car mounted to my motherboard?

I guess that should work.
