Will my 4-year-old CPU keep up with a GTX 970?

I'm considering upgrading my graphics card to a GTX 970, but I'm concerned that my current system will bottleneck the performance.

My CPU is an AMD Phenom II X6 1055T.

It's got 6 cores and has an operating frequency of 2.8GHz.

Here's my Mobo:

It's only got PCI-e 2.0, but from what I've read, that's not a huge concern in terms of performance. And it'll still be compatible with the PCI-e 3.0 of the GTX 970.

My current card is a GTX 670 (I think). It's served me quite well, but I've been feeling like raising my standards a bit for the next generation of games.

Is my CPU beefy enough to keep up? If not, what would you recommend? What operating frequency should I shoot for? How many cores should it have?

This system is a personal rig, primarily for gaming, secondarily for general web browsing and video-watching.

You could get a FX-6300, and in order to not bottleneck the GTX 970 overclock it to 4.3-4.5ish, or get an FX-8350. I would spend the money on an 8350, ad it is a more powerful CPU overall, and overclocking the 6300 that much would significantly reduce it's life span.

I have an AMD motherboard, and I'd prefer not to get a new one just yet if possible. I could get a socket AM3+ processor. I'm looking at an AMD FX-6300. It's got 6 cores, 3.5GHz. Would it be worth it to instead go with the FX-8320 which has 8 cores and similar operating frequency? My motherboard should be able to handle the higher power requirement.
