What differentiates a "high end" board from a "regular" board

What differentiates a "high end" board from a "regular" board in the context of PSU calculators like eXtreme's, ASUS', and Newegg's?

From a power supply calculator, the board itself only contributes 10 to 30 watts. This is usually insignificant compared to the CPU and GPU. If you were trying to squeeze the power consumption down to the lowest possible level for an HTPC or a fanless design it might become important, but since you will have an FX CPU with that motherboard, it really won't matter.

How I do it:

Over $100 - high end motherboard
Under $100 - low end

Worst case, just do high end.

highend boards do cost your more, but they give you more utilities for that extra money.

what you should be looking is the chipset, ie z97. then you compare the specs, some has more PCIe slots for SLI, some has more USB3.0 connections, and some are simply smaller, mATX.

it all comes to your preference, some boards are designed for gaming, they have more functions for graphics and audios, and look cooler

find the board the fits your system and your personal needs is more important than look for a highend mobo.
