If it is going into the BIOS, that says that it thinks something needs to be updated. Could be the BIOS battery died and it needs to be replaced. There MAY be a problem with the drive, but that would usually show up as "select boot drive" type message.

If it does not see the drive in the bios then check your sata cables and try to use a different port on the board as well.

If that does not help then at this point it is either a hard drive or a mothrboard problem. If possible test to see if that drive is seen in bios on another computer and you can test a different computer's drive to see if the prorblem computer can see the other drive in its bios.

Check that the cables to the hard drive are firmly attached (for the data cable, check both ends are firmly attached).

If nothing amiss with the connections, test the hard drive by booting the PC from the hard drive maker's diagnostic CD which you can make from a CD image which they supply here: http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/downloads/item/seatools-dos-master/

Download the ISO file and use IMGBurn on any computer to create a CD from it: http://filehippo.com/download_imgburn

Then boot the faulty PC from that CD.
