Hi,

In my room there is only 1 Ethernet port and when i connect my computer to the Ethernet port i usually get a network name of "network 5" but not always sometimes i would get "network 6" or "network 7" but network 6 and 7 are significantly slower than network 5 since i did a speed test on the three networks. As well sometimes in the middle of the night i would be playing a online game and i would disconnect since the network switches to "network 6" randomly or "network 7" So my question is what is causing my network to switch to a slower network randomly?

What kind of a location are you at? Is this a college dorm, a hotel, an apartment building??

If your locaiton uses wifi or some type of wireless system to communicate from building to building it might be using a mesh network (think multiple buildings creating a grid pattern) so if one path goes down or becomes weak it switches to a different path.

I am living in a student housing apartment complex, i think you are right about it using a mesh network. But is there a way to stop it from switching? Since every time it switches it disconnects for a few seconds or so and it gets annoying sometimes as well as the internet speed drops like from 160 ish mbps to 90 mbps.

The only thing on your end that can be done is report it to the buildings IT. You cant change any settings in their equipment.
