Worth it to go from 780 TI to 970 Sli?

Hello, how are you?

I am wondering if it is worth it to upgrade my graphics setup.
Currently I have a Gigabyte GTX 780 TI Windforce OC.
I am wondering if it is worth it to pick up a pair of MSIs GTX 970 Twinfrozr V 4gb.

From reviews I saw, in most cases of 2560x1440 (my gaming resolution), the 970 sli is around 30-40% faster than the 780ti, but that is comparing reference models.

And that is frame rates. How about the rest of the tech? The 780ti has all those shaders and stuff.
Does that matter more?

Anyway, should I sell my 780ti while it is still worth something and pick up the 970s? Or am I better old on for a future 980 TI?

Thanks for your input and opinions.

Cheers!

Yes. I think it's a good idea to to sell now your 780Ti while is still relevant.

The GTX 980 and 780Ti trade blows in performance, but when the GM200 big core arrives, the 780Ti will start to loose price value (which is good for buyers, bad for resellers).

The GTX 970 4GB SLI is very capable, you can even do 4K gaming.

For your resolution I'd go for the 970s as they give more performance and the 4GB is gonna help current or later. And if you are only gaming the plus spec of the 780 ti won't really do anything for you. A single GPU is always better, but sli has gone so good these days and it's doing really good (speaking as an sli user).

Thank you for your answers.
I just thought about another thing...
What if instead of taking a loss selling the 780ti, what if I took advantage of the price drop and bought another one to do 780ti Windforce OC Sli?

How would that work performance wise?

Cheers!

Well the 970 is a little bit slower than the 780 ti, you can achieve that by overclocking. And don't forget that maxwell is a GREAT over clocker and a GREAT power handler. The 970 Sli would be better because more vram and more power (with oc) and way less power hungry !

That's also a good choice, but the GTX 970 4GB SLI is better value than the 780Ti SLI.

As our pal iAboodz said, you can compensate the performance difference with OC. Usually GPU OC is more tricky than CPU, but Maxwell has already demonstrated its excellent and easy OC capabilities. The 4GB of VRAM helps a lot if you're going to play at 1440p or 4K with higher settings.
