LOLZ!

60FPS is also a just a number, as is 12/16/30 FPS.

Numbers have meaning.

Some people see flickering/jerky motion at 30, others see it closer to 50, and others could still get headaches/eye fatigue at anything less than 1000 (yes, I did mean a thousand FPS).

Your post might make more sense if OP asked for what is best system to get at least X FPS at 1080P (in $Game/settings) because SLI'd 980's would be overkill for almost all games, especially WoW or other typically CPU limited games. Since OP asked for best for $2900 and included a 980GTX - odds are it is a gaming system and an i7 4790K with SLI'd 980s would do much better than a 5930k CPU/single 980.

You're kidding right?

I don't know are you being sarcastic or not but I don't think you need 980 SLI to get the best gaming experience you can get, unless you're gaming on a 4k monitor.

Can you get solid 144fps with a single 980 with everything cranked up to the max?
I don't think so.
That what I call best and that's what I'm expecting from $2900 rig

I didn't say that I'll get 60 FPS at a 3K budget,but there is no difference between 65 FPS and 165 FPS.
And this isn't the best computer,I can guarantee that.
And he didn't include 2xGTX 980 because he spent way too much on other stuff.
Even 2xGTX 970 can handle games at 4K and 1440p,but they certainly aren't as good as 2x980.

OK,here's the explenation for it.
i7 4790K-lazy man's overclocking CPU.Overclocking has already been done(clocked at 4.0 GHz),but you can push it even more than that with the Maximus VII Hero and the X61.
Kraken X61-The BEST when it comes to closed water loops
Maximus-The BEST when it comes to LGA1150 MoBos
8GB of RAM-Enough for gaming
WD Caviar Black-Really fast for a HDD and you get 2TB of space
Samsung 840 EVO-Even faster, ofc, you can get another 500GB of you want or a 1TB version.
Graphics cards-I don't have to say anything,it's an R9 295x2.You can SLI GTX 980 if you want, but it's more expensive.
PSU-Because 1000W is recommended for a 295x2
The rest is pretty much self explenatory. ;)

I agree with the kraken, but everything else is just bullshit, that's a outdated build. DDR3, X97, Intel 4... processor. samsung ssd is fine ;*
