Hello all,

I've built my first pc this weekend and everything has worked fine until plugging in the monitor. Here are my components.

i5-4690K Processor
ASRock Z97 Pro4 MOBO
Crucial Ballistix 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Corsair CX 600W Power Supply

And the monitor...
AOC I2269VW 60Hz 21.5" Monitor

I am certain everything else works fine as I needed to plug into a school monitor to setup up the BIOS and install my OS (My monitor arrived several days after I built the pc). Upon plugging in my new monitor, the pc seems to run fine (indicated by fans and lights) but the monitor does not power on. I've triple checked my connections, tried a few reboots, and still no indication that the monitor has life.

The question;

Given everything that I have tried, is it likely my brand new monitor is simply broken or are there additional troubleshooting steps I can take?

Also, as a beginner I would appreciate any comments about my build.

Thanks in advanced!

Sounds like you need to return the monitor.
If it simply won't power on, it's obviously a dud.

Hi ,
Does your Monitor even power on ? Do any LED Blink ?
If yes, then just check the wires or motherboard.
If not, Replace the monitor its already broken. You may still have a warranty right ?
Well , for troubleshooting all you can do is check the cables.

And about your build ? Its really solid. Nice choice. Seems you're a gamer. But you don't have any Graphics Card. You're not planning to play games on that stupid Intel Integrated 'HD' ARE YOU???
Well if you are you just wasted your money. Get a R9 270X or something better. Then you can use it to its peak.

Anyways , with that build , I'm sure you are already planning to buy a GPU.

Thanks for the reply. The monitor must be a dud then, but I am still within the window for a full return.

I (hopefully) designed my build for use with processing hungry software that I use for work. 3D modelling, PDE solvers, ect. I am not much of a gamer except to play minecraft with my younger siblings. I have thought to upgrade to a SSD and potentially install a GPU if/when I need the upgrade and my wallet permits.

That's ok, sorry for the blunt reply. Build looks good, but a GPU will benefit you heaps for 3D work.
750ti if you're on a budget, 760 if you can afford it. :)
Or a 970 if you really want to get into PC gaming.
