Hello,

So I have decided on the graphics card I am going to get (MSI R7 260X 2GB GDDR5) to replace my current graphics which is the Radeon HD 8570D. I know how to upgrade a graphics card and with a 500w power supply I should be good to go however I wondered whether there was anything specific you need to do when upgrading from integrated graphics.

Any advice would be great,

Thanks

Hi jakeb459,

1. Ensure your motherboard has PCIE x16 slot, which provides a headroom for future GPU upgrades.
2. R7 260x won't be a good card for the current and upcoming titles. Start off with either R9 270X or GTX 760 to stay with high/ultra graphics even in full HD (1080 Pixels). Considering your budget is super skinny, R7 260X will be a perfect choice.
3. 500 Watts doesn't matter much. There should be a good build quality with commendable ampere rating in +12v rail. You can know this thing by observing the sticker on the PSU. Seasonic, Corsair, XFX, Antec, Cooler Master are some of the good companies who are known for providing better power supply units.

That's all from my side. Hope I've helped.

Yes, the information has been useful. Thanks very much. I can go for the R9 270X so I probably will and there is a PCIEx16 slot on the motherboard so that's fine. Thanks again!
