Like the title says, i want to make a FreeNAS PC. I don't want to spend to much, but i don't want to sacrifice the minimum decent performance.

I would like to hear some experiences with the OS and basic file management, it will be just for media storage (DLNA and streaming) but also of my quite important files (maybe use it as a cloud). All my data should be right now about 2 to 3 TB and will be growing of course, maybe i will use redundancy if you recommend to add it for more safety.

Also i would like to know some recommendations on the main hardware (i know about hardware performance an stuff but limited to windows), can I use outdated hardware or new hardware, low or high end CPUs/GPUs, AMD or Intel, how much RAM. Just suggest the hardware not the prices, i'm from México so i'll be looking for the parts here.

I haven't found the minimum requirements for FreeNAS. I will also hear other solutions.

Thanks.

Saludos desde México.

Here is someone' summary of what FreeNAS requires (it seems direct links to freenas.org do not work). Quite powerfull hardware, in fact, if you want all fancy stuff. Good CPU and plenty of RAM are a must.
