Does anyone know if the new GTX 980 will support 3 monitors with good frame rate or would i have to get two just like the 780?

If you needed 2 780's in last setup..... you will likely need 2 980s also. There have been performance gains but mostly in power efficiency.

Maybe wait for some definitive reviews to see if the cost of upgrade would be worth it for you. I would probably keep the 780's since you already have them.

I see.

Well, I can say that whatever the % of performance gain the 980 has over the 780, it is not enough to warrant only getting one 980 if you came to the conclusion that you would need (2) 780's. A single 980, in no way, will be able to match (2) 780's in SLI.
