Socket and Core temps, how do I know which is which?

Software programs call them different names or just generalise and say CPU Temp. How do I know which temperature they are referring to? Socket or core? Picture provided below:

Also, on HWMonitor, what's CPUTIN and What temperature is "Package" referring to?

(PS: My VCore is so low cause of Cool n Quiet enabled.)

Solution
Package temp is usually an Intel i-Core function only. It is suppose to be the temp of the hottest core or the combined temps of the core and the iGPU. But is is generally considered not critical. What HWM is reading, is anybody's guess. The safest OC temp monitoring is with AOD where you actually see the room you have left in degrees C.

On my FX-8350, Core Temp's TjMax closely relates to AOD's 0C thermal margin. And Core Temp seems to be fairly accurate at load temps. Not sure about idle temps, but they don't really matter unless you are having a problem.

If the temp software does not specify 'core temp', it is referring to the socket temp. For FX processors, your best temp monitoring is done via AMD's Overdrive.

It will display Thermal Margin instead of direct core temps. TM is the distance you have to throttling. Ever since the demise of the K10 architecture, temp monitoring on AMD CPUs has been... flaky to be kind. Best to simply watch your TM when OC'ing. Here is a better explanation of what I am referring to:

Ahh cheers dude, so Speedfan and the CPUTIN are displaying the CPU socket temp? I do have AMD overdrive but didn't realise the function of thermal margin.

Also, just so I know and understand, what's the "package" temp in HWMonitor referring to as it differs from the socket temps of CPUTIN and what Speedfan report?

This package temp also bounces around on idle from 11, 13, 20, 15 and to 18 within a matter of seconds. Obviously that is incorrect but I'm just curious to know what this is actually trying to monitor
