Hey all,
Currently I'm using a Netgear N600 and the modem is cactus. I'm getting terrible download speeds and a bunch of drop outs. Normally I'd try to find other solutions but all 4 of my lan ports on the modem are broken so i think its time for a new modem.
Atm i live 1.9k from the exchange.

Now onto my question. In regards to getting a good connection to my isp(good line speed, no/few dropouts) would i be better off getting a new modem like the Asus DSL-AC60U or would a cheap modem be able to provide similar results?

When your device has multiple lan ports it is likely a router. A true DSL modem is fairly rare. You can set many to bridge mode but that alone does not have much impact on performance.
The main reason you would use a separate modem and router is more related to features in the router. For example if you wanted to use features like nas storage or maybe a USB 3g/4g modem as a backup. These features are on number of high end routers but finding them on a router with a build in dsl modem tends to be much harder.

If you can get a combo route/modem that has the feature you need you will likely get pretty much the same performance out of both.
