I've been looking around for graphics cards recently and I was going to get http://pcpartpicker.com/part/sapphire-video-card-100373... for $189 after rebates, but I found http://pcpartpicker.com/part/sapphire-video-card-112170... for less then $20 more at a faster clock speed and higher ram. Now correct me if I'm wrong but wouldnt the 270x be a better overall graphics card if it will fit my motherboard? If not can you explain why the 280 is better?

Anyways hopefully not a hard question to answer and thanks for the help!

The 280 is a faster card, it has more cores. It can play most games at 1080p with settings maxed out or pretty close to it. It's actually the same card I have with a different name. The 270x is much slower.

Why buy a r9-290 when a GTX 970 is cheaper, faster, uses less power and produces alot less heat.

For ~$200 the 280 is the best option. It's faster than the 270x, 4gb of vram on a 270x is useless(and overpriced) unless you are using 2 in crossfire, a single 270x isn't going to be able to make use of 4gb.

ASUS GTX 770 or MSI GTX 770. A little more money, a hell lot better.
