(I don't know if this is the right category or not but...) My friend is saying that i need to get 2 sticks of ram instead of just one (i plan on getting 8 GB total) according to my Dad, it depends on the Motherboard, but my friends thought is that with 1 stick of ram it's only drawing power from the 1 stick but with 2 then its drawing power from 2 places instead of 1 and that is supposed to make it better.

More about : sticks

Your dad is right, depends on the motherboard. Let's say you have 4 DIMM slots that operate in dual channel.

Meaning it needs atleast 2 slots filled to operate at full speed / bandwith. So if the motherboard says it's dual channel it's best to get 2 x 2gb (with the same specs ofcourse) for optimal performance.

2 sticks are better than one. Nobody will need more than 4 DIMM slots (16gb is enough for any sane person who isn't running 1000 video editing applications at once)
