Good upgrade from HP EliteBook 8740w for around $750

I have a decent HP Elitebook 8740w, with an i5 520m, firepro 7820m flashed to a Radeon 5870m, 4 gigs of ram, a 60gb ssd + 16 gb sd card, 1680x1050 screen.

What is a good upgrade performance-wise from this for $750 or so? I will be selling the Elitebook at some point, probably in november/december, and I expect to get around 500-600 for it, and I can spend up to 200 dollars of my own earnings as well.

The the looks and specs of the Dell Inspiron 17 7000 are very good - (the one with the GT 750m GDDR5, and i7 4510m), but that is just barely out of my price-range. Also, the Alienware 17 looks awesome, but that is REALLY out of my price range. No I don't prefer Dell, they just happen to have some of the better looking notebooks out there right now.

It would be great to get a laptop that has better performance than my current laptop, but also has a battery that will last at least 2 hours doing internet browsing and/or video streaming.

I am fine with buying refurbished or *lightly* used laptops, as long as they come from a reputable seller.

My main uses for the laptop will be 1: schoolwork (writing papers, coding, video editing) and 2: gaming ( bf3,bf4, SMITE, dawngate, Warthunder, and some Empire: Total War.) I would like to play above games at medium or better settings at 1080p (or whatever screen the laptop comes with- I only do full-screen gaming). Only exception being BF4 i know that it is quite hard to run I am okay with lower settings on it.

Last thing- I would prefer 17" form factor, but I wont care too much if it has good specs.

Thanks for any input!
