Currently have the NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT, it is not capable of running DirectX 11 and am looking to upgrade to a new graphics card. What are some good cards to look into?

Current Specs:
Processor AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor 3.0 GHz Quad Core
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 4.0GB
Memory 8.2 GB
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1, 64- bit
Power Supply Corsair HX 750

Would like to keep cost $500 and under. New card must be able to run Direct X11 for newer games.

Your current computer specs and how much you are willing to pay for the card would be a good start :)

A GTX 970 would a great buy then. personally like Gigabyte's windforce GTX 970 for its overclocking capability

This is a bit of a tough spot here. If you OC your current processor it could support at most without bottleneck a 270x. A 970 would be severely limited by your processor.

I would look into a better CPU, MOBO, and GPU
