I can't overclock my AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE CPU... When I change the settings in BIOS, it says "Cold reset due to BIOS post" and restarts, then it goes to BIOS again, with nothing saved. What does this mean? I really need to OC soon... major bottleneck with my r9 280x, yes I am getting a new CPU soon, but for now I need to juice this Phenom.

basic specs:
Phenom II x4 965 BE w/ aftermarket massive heatsink
16gb ddr3 (4x4gb)
bioSTAR TA870U3+ Motherboard
r9 280x GPU

Thanks for answering, I asked this a while ago, no good responses, I don't need exact numbers really I just need to know how to fix it not allowing me to OC

Biostar makes crap Motherboards,Sir.I think Updating your BIOS may help out as this also may be a Bug.Also try resetting the CMOS.If nothing works,I can suggest you go for the AMD FX 6300 with Cooler Master Hyper 212X on the ASRock or ASUS Motherboard. Please OC The FX 6300 to 4.5 Ghz otherwise it will surely bottleneck the Radeon R9 280X.Otherwise,The Phenom II is a legend and did well in it's time.It was an OC'ing Beast. It OC'ed on every Mobo like Nobody's Business ! Thank you

I have reset the CMOS before, now I will try updating the BIOS, what file do I use for the BIOS update? It asks me for the BIOS file, on the manufacturer site there is 2 files, Update CPU Micro Code, and Initial BIOS. I am guessing I choose Initial BIOS... Can you help me out here?

BTW, I am getting the i7 4790k soon so I am not going to keep this for long nor upgrade to an FX-6300
